Dr. El-Araby is a Professor of Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering as well as Chair of Public Works Department at the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University in Cairo. Dr. Khaled El-Araby has over 30 years technical and research experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems covering transport projects in USA, Europe, and the Middle East. Dr. El-Araby has a Ph.D. in transportation planning and artificial intelligence from Texas A&M University, USA. Between 1993 and 1998, Dr. El-Araby was involved in many transportation and traffic engineering projects in the Middle East. Between 1998 and 2005, Dr. El-Araby, in his tenure at Technical University of Munich and as Head of ITS Group at Dorsch Engineering Office in Germany, worked in several key trans-European and national transport and ITS projects in Germany and Europe. He has also worked as transport evaluation expert in the European Investment Bank, as well as the World Bank covering transportation projects in Europe and the Middle East. Since March 2005, Dr. El-Araby has worked as a transportation consultant in Europe and the Middle East, in addition to his work as Professor of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering at Ain Shams University in Cairo. Key references include ITS Masterplan for Kingdom of Bahrain, ITS Masterplan for Egypt, National Tracking System for Dangerous Goods Vehicles in UAE and German international project, Future Megacities. A key reference was the involvement of Dr. El-Araby between 2015 and 2017 and between 2020 and 2021, as Project Director for the Riyadh ITS Public Transport Bus Project for Royal Commission for Riyadh City. Currently, Dr. El-Araby is acting as Project Director for management of ITS planning and deployment at the New Administrative Capital in Egypt. Dr. El-Araby has published over 30 papers in scientific and technical journals covering a wide range of transportation planning and engineering issues including co-author in the PIARC World Road Association ITS Handbook (3rd edition), 2016.
